                                                        SİDE ANCİENT CİTY

   Side (Greek:Σίδη ) was an ancient Luvi city in Anatolia. According to the historians Side was founded  in 1405 B.C. And the city was under the rule of Lidians, Persians, Alexander, Antiogonos, Ptolemaios starting with 6th century B.C.

Side lived its the most magnificent days while it was bishopric center in 5th and 6th centuries A.D. The main gate of the city that has a marvelous craftsmanship, is between two towers. There are two main streets in Side. There is Nymphaeum, the biggest historical fountain of Anatolia, on the opposite side of city gate, outside the walls. After the theatre is left behind a monumental structure can be visited passing through a wide street. The bazaar place of the city, agora is surrounded with porticos and shops are lined on three side of it.

On the south part of the agora, Gymnasium that has three saloons and surrounded with porticos, is on the street. A big Roman Bath turned into a museum today and displays the most beautiful archeological collection of the region.

ZEUGMA

          This antique city that was a place of continuous settlement was founded on one of the two places where Euphrate river can easily be crossed. ' Zeugma ' name means crossing point. Today the city is covered with 3-4 meters of soil. One third of  this, 20 thousand acres of antique city will be under water because of water collecting facility for Birecik Dam. Zeugma lived its most magnificent days in second century A.D. and was one of the four biggest towns of  the empire. Zeugma was a really important settlement because it had 4 legion headquarters with high ranked officers and preferred by the merchants because of its strategic position. But this magnificent town was destroyed and buried into the ground because of the wars and natural disasters.

Synagogue, Gymnasium and also like gold refinery, shops and little churches 
 along the marbled street, many archeological monuments were found. Sardes Ruins Area is visited frequently also as the place where Sardes Church, one of the seven churches of early ages of Christianity in western Aegean, take place.

Also, the Synagogue located on the north side of İzmir-Ankara highway in Sardes antique city, is one of the oldest of its type in Anatolia.

               Myra is an ancient town in Lykia . Myra is a city carved into the rocks facing the sea. İt maybe the most beautiful example of its kind in Anatolia. İt's understood from widely spread ruins, graves and Lykian scripts that the city dates back to the fifth century B.C.

Saint Nicholas
           İn seventeen A.D. Emporer Germanicus 
visited Myra with his wife Agrippina. St. Paul also visited Myra in sixty A.D. The second century A.D. is the period when Myra was bestowed the honor of being  a metropolis and a great development took place.
 Saint Nicholas of Myra was the bishop of Myra in the fourth century. The city, under the Byzantine rule in fourth and fifth centuries was an important religious and administrative center.

              Selge (Σελγη) was an important city in Pisidia. İt's believed that Selge was first founded by Kalchas

and then settled by Spartans. The remains are scattered in a wide area  around Zerk village. The most robust structure of the city was the theatre. City walls, temples, water arcs and graves are among the structures to be seen.

The stone covered floor of a fairly wide square where north and east sides are closed with buildings is thought to be

the Agora of the city. Along with the cistern and engraved mausoleums, the Zeus and Artemisia temples on the west have been waiting to be discovered. Another one of the important characteristics of Selge ruins, is the water sources that are still intact. Especially the springs on the skirts of Aladana hill are still being used today.
